As a small country inn with farm, the Plattenwirt was located at the old road leading to Villach ever since the reedy eastern shore of Wörthersee was more avoided than wanted by the people of Klagenfurt.
The year date 1810 can be found set into a building stone. House and farm building stood on stony underground. Ledges or plates of rock, which account for the name of the guesthouse and which were dug out at a later time, came to the surface all around. The monolayer stratum remained preserved for a long time.

Those who would like to take it easy exploring the lake can do so on a comfortable boat trip around the lake. One option is a trip on one of Europe's last screw-steamships, the Thalia.
Scheduled boat trips let you visit the sights of the places around the lake on your boat trip at the same time, e.g. the Schlosshotel in Velden or the church in Maria Wörth.
Our hotel is located directly at the large and fully developed bicycle path network.
Going east is in the direction of Klagenfurt centre, going west is in the direction of Krumpendorf – Pörtschach, and going south via the Europapark

A tour for those who are looking for a combination of culture and entertainment.
Starting from our hotel, we first cycle to the Klagenfurt Beach Spa, cross the Lendkanal and ride on the Schilfweg path, down Wörthersee Süduferstraße and Jugenddorferstraße to the nature park Maiernigg (approx. 3.8km with a slight slope at the end).
Now, the same route is used on the way back up to the Lendkanal. On Lorettoweg and Tarviserstraße, past the stone bridge, Steinerne Brücke, to Christkönigskirche church and Elisabethsteg (approx. 6.8km).
From the Elisabethsteg footbridge, we ride over the Martin-Luther-Platz square with the Protestant Johannes Church, along Lerchenfelderstraße and Henselstraße to the botanic garden (approx. 1.3km).
The garden is worth seeing with local flora, moor and water plants being shown. In a 500-m long gallery, the Mining Museum (entry through the botanic garden) shows about 10,000 mining exhibits and a big minerals exhibition.
From Kreuzberglkirche, a hiking trail leads up about 500m to the Volkssternwarte with an observation tower from which you can enjoy a marvellous view of Klagenfurt.
We continue cycling to Kinstraße and Josefinumstraße up to St. Martin’s Church. We continue on Rankengasse and Heinzelgasse to the bike bridge over the railway line and the motorway. We return to our hotel again using Tarviserstraße and Villacherstraße (approx. 2.5km).
After these 14 kilometres, you have earned yourself some rest and relaxation on our shady terrace.

Numerous possibilities to picnic and swim invite to a restful break. We take Auenweg till we reach a level-crossing that separates us from the cars. Directly after the crossing, we take a right and cross a bridge to the Kalmusbad (approx. 5.4km).
